Noteworthy 2-4-20 Is it possible to Simplify your life AND Crush your goals

Uncategorized Feb 04, 2020

I don't know how it's possible that it's already the first week of February.  And I don't think I'm the only one.  I've seen so many Instagram and Facebook posts talking about how long January 2020 seemed to last.  It felt like everyone was rushing to get the new decade started with a bang.

Well, I started the new decade sick while on vacation.  A bit of a rocky start.  NOW I'm ready to get down to business.  Everyone else has already filled their calendar with business goals for the year and personal accomplishments they want to attain.  Their journals and planners are overflowing and meal prep is happening like clockwork.

I'm not quite there.

As January rolled to a close, I finally settled on my word for the year - Simplify.  I went through so many powerful options: Launch! Dare! Momentum!  I thought about a more spiritual choice: Truth. Peace. Alignment.  I tossed around ideas about how I wanted to help grow my business: Focus. Impact. Action.  So many great options.

But ultimately, I believe that to be more successful personally and professionally, I must Simplify.  I will be working this year to parse out the things in my life that aren't really serving me.  I sold my house last Fall, so I did get rid of a lot of belongings.  And I know when I move into my new space, I'll shed even more.  It's crazy how many things accumulate in empty spaces and just stick around.

But clutter is more than just possessions.  It's emails, saying 'yes' too often, hours being involved in too many organizations, starting (and not finishing) projects, self-imposed expectations - all those ToDo list items that create a busy life, but not necessarily a fulfilling life.

By Simplifying I'm hoping to be left with, not just things that 'spark joy', but things that are moving me towards my dream of living a more purpose-driven life.  Without clutter, I'm hoping to be able to envision life more clearly and even breathe more easily.

I feel like I'm at a great place in life to decide what I want the next chapter to look like.  I want to surround myself with the people, experiences and objects that mean the most to me -- and carry those forward.

My goal is to keep my focus on the word Simplify and question whether the things I do or purchase enhance a more purposeful, simple life or add unnecessary complication.

Hopefully your 2020 is starting strong and you've taken time to think about how you want this year to fit in the timeline of your life.  I do believe it is not only possible to simplify your life and still crush your goals, it is an important way to ensure success.
